 IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL POLICE WEEK AND MONICA MARTINEZ DURING ALS 
                            AWARENESS MONTH

  (Mr. ROY asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
  Mr. ROY. Mr. Speaker, as we celebrate National Police Week this week 
and ALS Awareness Month in May, I take time to recognize Monica 
Martinez.
  I know that her niece, Annie Martinez, is here in the Chamber, and 
Annie is a staffer here on Capitol Hill. Annie is from New Braunfels.
  Monica served faithfully with the Comal County Sheriff's Office for 
nearly a quarter of a century. I have become very close with the great 
public servants of Comal County in the sheriff's office and the police 
department. They are great people.
  Tragically, in 2023, Monica's career was cut short after she was 
diagnosed with Bulbar Onset ALS.
  She is a cornerstone of her community and a beacon of inspiration for 
the entire family.
  We are indebted to her service to Comal County, and we honor her as 
she faces this next challenge against this terrible disease.
  As a cancer survivor, I wish her well, and we will be praying for her 
constantly.
  I thank Monica for her steadfast commitment to Texas. She is in the 
thoughts and prayers of me, the people of Comal County, and her family.
  May God bless Monica.
