AFFIRMING THAT HAMAS CANNOT RETAIN ANY POLITICAL OR MILITARY CONTROL IN 
                             THE GAZA STRIP

  Mr. THUNE. Madam President, I ask unanimous consent that the 
Committee on Foreign Relations be discharged and the Senate now proceed 
to S. Res. 72.
  The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered.
  The clerk will report the resolution by title.
  The legislative clerk read as follows:

       A resolution (S. Res. 72) affirming that Hamas cannot 
     retain any political or military control in the Gaza Strip.

  There being no objection, the committee was discharged, and the 
Senate proceeded to consider the resolution.
  Mr. THUNE. Madam President, I ask unanimous consent that the 
resolution be agreed to, the preamble be agreed to, and that the 
motions to reconsider be considered made and laid upon the table.
