HONORING AMERICA'S EDUCATORS
(Mr. PETERS asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. PETERS. Madam Speaker, today marks Teacher Appreciation Day,
which is a chance to honor the educators who have guided us, inspired
us, showed us kindness, and recognized our potential, and I want to
thank just one of many today.
Anyone who knows me knows I am a stickler for clear, concise writing,
and I credit my appreciation for a good turn of phrase to Yvonne Vish,
my ninth grade English teacher at Lyons Township High School in La
Grange, Illinois. She must have spent hours going over our papers to
correct every wrong word, dangling participle, and misplaced modifier.
She did so much to help me become an effective communicator, a skill
that has helped me my whole life. I thank Miss Vish for her patience
and dedication, both of which unquestionably made a difference for me
and for many others.
