        CONGRATULATING SHERIFF E.W. VIAR, JR., ON HIS RETIREMENT

  (Mr. GOOD of Virginia asked and was given permission to address the 
House for 1 minute.)
  Mr. GOOD of Virginia. Madam Speaker, I rise to recognize the service 
of former Amherst County Sheriff E.W. Viar, Jr.
  Sheriff Viar completed almost 40 years of service in law enforcement, 
including 8 years as the sheriff of Amherst County. He led many 
successful public safety initiatives, including expanding the K-9 
program, using drone technology, and ensuring that there were school 
resource officers in every school to protect our students.
  Through his diligence and dedication to public service, Sheriff Viar 
worked tirelessly to create a safe county for all Amherst residents. I 
thank Sheriff Viar for his extensive career of service in law 
enforcement, and I wish him the very best in his retirement.
  Sheriff Viar is an example of the courage and bravery demonstrated by 
each member of law enforcement who selflessly works every day to keep 
our communities safe. I am honored to represent those like Sheriff Viar 
serving in law enforcement in Virginia's Fifth District, and I thank 
them for their continued commitment and sacrifice.
