                  NATIONAL BLOOD CLOT AWARENESS MONTH

  (Ms. BLUNT ROCHESTER asked and was given permission to address the 
House for 1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.)
  Ms. BLUNT ROCHESTER. Mr. Speaker, March is National Blood Clot 
Awareness Month. One American every 6 minutes dies from a blood clot, 
which is why yesterday I unveiled a virtual toolkit to raise awareness, 
promote action, and inspire advocacy because blood clots don't 
discriminate.

  As a Member of Congress and a member of the Health Subcommittee, this 
issue is a professional one for me and the 100,000 Americans who die, 
but, as Lisa, this is personal.
  Mr. Speaker, 10 years ago, I lost my husband Charles Rochester to 
blood clots. His death shook me to the core and inspired me to act. 
That is why I introduced the bipartisan Charles Rochester Blood Clot 
Prevention and Treatment Act.
  Recently, my family was, again, impacted by blood clots. My dad was 
diagnosed with cancer. The second leading cause of death for people 
with cancer is blood clots. Dad contracted a blood clot in his leg and 
his arm, but because I knew the signs, we were able as a family to have 
4 more months with him. He passed away in January.
  Mr. Speaker, today for our loved ones and our constituents, let's 
raise awareness, and let's advocate. Let's act to stop the clot, spread 
the word, and save lives.
