  INTRODUCTION OF THE LET EVERYONE GET INVOLVED IN OPPORTUNITIES FOR 
                          NATIONAL SERVICE ACT

  Mr. CORREA. Madam Speaker, the American Legion is the largest 
veterans service organization in the United States. Originally 
chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919, the American Legion has 
consistently advocated for our nation's servicemembers and their 
families for 100 years. In that time, the American Legion has fostered 
a community of support for our men and women who have served in the 
Armed Forces.
  Currently, only veterans who served during formally recognized 
periods of hostilities are eligible to join the Legion. Therefore, I am 
introducing the bipartisan LEGION Act, which will enable all veterans 
who have fought for our country to join and enjoy the benefits of the 
American Legion. Specifically, the bill expands membership eligibility 
to veterans who have served honorably in unrecognized periods of 
conflict since World War II. This bill recognizes and thanks our brave 
servicemembers and veterans for their service to our country.
