                      ISRAEL'S DAY OF INDEPENDENCE

  Mr. CASEY. Mr. President, I wish to extend my support for the State 
of Israel in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of its founding.
  Since its independence in 1948, Israel's promotion of democratic 
values has helped forge a thriving society and represents freedom in a 
region where that value is all too scarce. From its outset, Israel has 
faced a myriad of challenges, which it has navigated successfully and 
against all odds. Israel continues to remain America's strongest ally 
in the Middle East, as well as a central pillar of our strategy to 
achieve peace and stability in the region.
  Once again, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to the State 
of Israel on its 70th anniversary.
