                             HIRE VETS ACT

  Mr. SULLIVAN. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that the Health, 
Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee be discharged from further 
consideration of H.R. 244 and the Senate proceed to its immediate 
consideration.
  The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered.
  The clerk will report the bill by title.
  The senior assistant legislative clerk read as follows:

       A bill (H.R. 244) to encourage effective, voluntary 
     investments to recruit, employ, and retain men and women who 
     have served in the United States military with annual Federal 
     awards to employers recognizing such efforts, and for other 
     purposes.

  There being no objection, the Senate proceeded to consider the bill.
  Mr. SULLIVAN. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that the Blunt 
amendment at the desk be agreed to; the bill, as amended, be considered 
read a third time and passed; and the motion to reconsider be 
considered made and laid upon the table.

  The amendment (No. 192) was agreed to, as follows:
