                              APPOINTMENT

  Mr. GARDNER. Mr. President, I understand an appointment was made 
during the adjournment of the Senate, and I ask it be stated for the 
Record.
  The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Chair, on behalf of the Vice President, 
pursuant to the provisions of 20 U.S.C., sections 42 and 43, reappoints 
the Senator from Vermont, Mr. Leahy, as a member of the Board of 
Regents of the Smithsonian Institution.
