MOURNING THE LOSS OF SHIMON PERES
(Mr. CICILLINE asked and was given permission to address the House
for 1 minute.)
Mr. CICILLINE. Mr. Speaker, I rise to express my deep sadness on the
passing of former Israeli President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres.
Shimon Peres was devoted to the cause of the Jewish state and worked
tirelessly to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East.
He was the founding father of the State of Israel and remained,
throughout his life, one of its greatest champions. He was the central
architect of the Oslo Accords and was respected around the world for
his strong leadership as Prime Minister and President of Israel. His
example should be an inspiration to us all, as he fought so long for
peace.
My thoughts are with his family and friends as well as the people of
Israel, who have lost a beloved leader.
