SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF STUDENTS' DISAPPEARANCE IN MEXICO
(Mr. LOWENTHAL asked and was given permission to address the House
for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. LOWENTHAL. Mr. Speaker, today marks the 2-year anniversary of the
disappearance of 43 students from the Raul Isidro Burgos Rural
Teachers' School in Ayotzinapa, Mexico.
Sadly, Mexican authorities have yet to secure any criminal
convictions or to uncover the whereabouts of these disappeared
students. I strongly urge the Mexican authorities to continue to search
for the students, to bring to justice those responsible for the
disappearance, and to investigate the possible obstruction of justice
by public officials.
Two years is too long--too long for the students' grieving families
and too long for those of us who care about justice and human rights in
Mexico. Let's not let another anniversary pass without answers.
