75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY OFFICER CANDIDATE SCHOOL
(Mr. WITTMAN asked and was given permission to address the House for
1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. WITTMAN. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to highlight a momentous
event: the 75th anniversary celebration of the United States Army
Officer Candidate School.
The Army Officer Candidate School program was established in 1941
when the Secretary of War, the War Department, and the Army Chief of
Staff agreed that a training program was needed to quickly commission
new officers. Since its inception, the demand for well-trained junior
officers has expanded and contracted as American soldiers have been
involved in conflicts spanning World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and
the war on terror.
The Army Officer Candidate School continues to demonstrate
unparalleled flexibility, professionalism, and an exceptional ability
to provide the U.S. Army with competent, well-trained, and fearless
officers in the most responsive time possible. The graduates are
recognized as leaders in the Nation's first and best line of defense in
the Army and are essential to fighting and winning our Nation's wars.
Again, I would like to congratulate them on the 75th anniversary
celebration of the United States Army Officer Candidate School.
