RECOGNIZING FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY'S RESEARCH ON THE ZIKA VIRUS
(Ms. GRAHAM asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute.)
Ms. GRAHAM. Mr. Speaker, today I rise to recognize Florida State
University for the important research they are conducting into the
deadly Zika virus. In coordination with Johns Hopkins and Emory
Universities, Florida State researchers have made crucial breakthroughs
that will be useful in slowing or preventing the virus from spreading.
As you know, Zika has wreaked havoc across South America, and it
poses a great threat to our country, especially to my home State of
Florida. There have already been more than 80 Zika cases reported in
Florida, and as summer approaches, the situation will likely worsen.
We can't wait any longer. It is time to put politics aside and for
Congress to do its job. We must fully fund research, prevention, and
response efforts to fight this deadly virus before it spreads.
