REAUTHORIZE THE EXPORT-IMPORT BANK
(Mr. KILDEE asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute.)
Mr. KILDEE. Mr. Speaker, yesterday I met with business owners and the
Chamber of Commerce back home in Michigan to discuss what actions we
can take here in Congress to create jobs and to boost our economy.
One action that came up is that Congress could immediately act to
bring up legislation to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank.
It was clear to these businessowners Michigan jobs are at risk if Ex-
Im is permanently shuttered. This bank, the Ex-Im Bank, supports over a
million U.S. jobs, thousands of small businesses, across the country.
Sadly, the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, which has been
supported for over 80 years by Democrats and Republicans in this House
and in the White House, has become a victim of Washington's partisan
gridlock, and it is Michigan's businesses and workers and workers all
across this country that are paying the price for Congress'
unwillingness to take this up.
Nearly every developed country, including China, has an export credit
agency of some type. Ex-Im cannot be allowed to expire. American jobs
are at risk.
Let's reauthorize the Export-Import Bank.
