CUBA
(Ms. ROS-LEHTINEN asked and was given permission to address the House
for 1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.)
Ms. ROS-LEHTINEN. Mr. Speaker, the administration's concessions to
the tyrannical Cuban regime have only strengthened the iron grip of the
dictatorship, and by President Obama attempting to normalize relations
with the island, we are only putting more money into the coffers of
these thugs to continue their repressive ways.
The White House and the State Department were once again fooled by a
tyrant, and that has grave consequences for our credibility around the
world.
Mr. Speaker, this is a bad deal. It is a bad deal for the people of
Cuba, a bad deal for America, and a bad deal for freedom-loving people
everywhere.
Today, I was joined by other Members of Congress in sending a letter
to Secretary Kerry urging the administration to stop its concessions,
abandon the talks scheduled with Cuba later this month, and get serious
about bringing true reforms to Cuba first before even contemplating a
change in our relations.
If they won't listen, it is up to us in Congress to defend freedom
for Cuba and, indeed, around the world.
