LITIGATING THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH
(Ms. JACKSON LEE asked and was given permission to address the House
for 1 minute.)
Ms. JACKSON LEE. Mr. Speaker, often, the American people hear the
term ``Congress,'' but I think it is important to let all of my
colleagues know and remind them what the Republicans will be doing over
the next 48 hours.
It is important to know that there will be a resolution--a bill--on
the floor of the House, H. Res. 676, and it says that they are looking
for the power to intervene in one or more civil actions to file suit
against the President, to seek any appropriate relief against the
President, the head of any department or agency, or any other officer
or employee.
Let me be very clear. The Republicans are looking to sue the
secretary who didn't order enough paper clips and indicate that we need
to sue the President for not doing his job, while veterans are
suffering and need a whole reformation and a new bill, while people are
still not getting their unemployment insurance, while we are not able
to expand Medicaid to help those who need health care, and while we are
not raising the minimum wage.
Democrats want to work for the American people, but Republicans want
to sue the secretary, meaning the secretary who orders paper clips,
because the President is not doing his job. Let's work for the American
people.
