SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH
(Mr. GARCIA asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. GARCIA. Madam Speaker, I rise to support education in the STEM

fields--science, technology, engineering, and math--especially as more
than 60 percent of U.S. employers face difficulties finding qualified
workers in the STEM fields, it is essential that we support education
in the STEM fields to remain competitive in a 21st century global
economy.
That is why I have introduced the Innovative STEM Networks Act, which
will establish a grant program for school districts to create
partnerships with universities, business, and local nonprofits to
support learning in the STEM fields.
Schools like FIU, Miami Dade College, and the University of Miami
have dedicated resources to ensuring their students have a strong
foundation in STEM subjects, and my bill will replicate this success
for students preparing to enter college or the workforce.
I urge my colleagues to work with me to create jobs and spur economic
growth by supporting STEM education.
