                       DEMAND ACTION ON H.R. 4594

(Mr. BLUMENAUER asked and was given permission to address the House
for 1 minute.)
Mr. BLUMENAUER. Mr. Speaker, I just shared with the Speaker that the
battle to save the lives of Afghans who helped Americans as guides and
interpreters has been a roller coaster, documented again Wednesday
night in a gripping film, ``The Interpreters,'' by VICE News, about the
American failure to protect those who helped us.
The program was brought back to life during the difficult government
shutdown period by a bipartisan effort. Now that same bipartisan spirit
is needed again, because only a few hundred visas remain with 6,000
people in the pipeline, with thousands more who must not be left to the
tender mercies of the Taliban seeking revenge to torture and kill them.

It is the moral obligation of every Member of Congress to protect the
men and women who helped Americans, who protected us in some of the
most difficult of circumstances.
Please don't just cosponsor H.R. 4594; demand action before we
adjourn. Lives are at stake.
