PAY OUR MILITARY ACT
(Mr. THOMPSON of Pennsylvania asked and was given permission to
address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. THOMPSON of Pennsylvania. Mr. Speaker, when Congress was unable
to reach agreement on a funding bill, the House acted immediately on
the Pay Our Military Act. The bill passed the House on September 29,
the Senate on September 30, and it was signed into law by the President
that same day.
The Pay Our Military Act ensures that U.S. military personnel and
active military Reservists will be paid and receive their allowances
during this government shutdown.
Over the past week, the House put forward legislation to fund
critical areas of government. We passed the Pay Our Guard and Reserve
Act and the Honoring Our Promise to America's Veterans Act. Yesterday,
we considered and passed the Nutrition Assistance for Low-Income Women
and Children Act; and, today, we passed another bill to fund the
government.
These measures should have received the support of every Member in
this Chamber. They are bills that should have passed the Senate and
made their way to the President's desk. The President and the Senate
should back these bills just as they did the Pay Our Military Act.
Let's end this stalemate and move forward with the people's business.
