                  FIXING OUR BROKEN IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

(Mr. POLIS asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. POLIS. It is rare, Mr. Speaker, that more than two-thirds of the
United States Senate agrees on anything. It's rare, Mr. Speaker, when
two-thirds of the American people agree on anything. And yet the
Senate, with 68 votes, passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill
that will finally replace our broken immigration system with one that
works: one that works for our economy; one that works for American
families; one that helps grow jobs; and one that restores the rule of
law to an underground system where people continue to live in an
underground economy here in our country today.
There are 11 million people here in our country illegally. The
American people are fed up with the violation of the rule of law and of
our sovereignty. It's time to fix our broken immigration system in a
way that's consistent with our values as Americans.
We are a Nation of immigrants; we also are a Nation of laws. It's
time to reconcile those two truisms. Take up the Senate bill in the
United States House of Representatives, send it to President Obama's
desk, and finally fix our broken immigration system to make it work for
our country.
