CLIMATE CHANGE
(Mr. WAXMAN asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. WAXMAN. Mr. Speaker, this last week, the International Energy
Agency came out with a very important report about climate change. They
said that if we don't act soon, we are going to see extreme weather
events--droughts, hurricanes, all sorts of flooding, real serious
problems for our children and our grandchildren. But the important
thing in this report is if we do act now, we can avert some of those
horrible consequences that will face our children, and especially our
grandchildren.
I want to urge the Congress to take this report seriously and let us
start acting to protect future generations and this planet. We only
have one atmosphere we share with everyone else. Let's not pollute it
so that the carbon emissions and greenhouse gases continue to heat the
planet and cause climate problems that we're already witnessing today.
Let's move. It will help our economy, as well as our environment.
