WHERE ARE THE JOBS?
(Mr. POSEY asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. POSEY. Where are the jobs?
I'll tell you where they're not. They're not created or seemingly
even encouraged by the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Department is
still bullying small mom-and-pop businesses to complete lengthy, time-
consuming, and expensive questionnaires about their personal business;
but they don't have time to answer my questions about the need, the
justification, or the actual use of the information in those
questionnaires.
A letter received by a constituent just yesterday threatens that if
they don't get their economic census back within 2 weeks, they will
refer their case to general counsel. How can constituents trust this
agency when even the formerly independent IRS is now used as a partisan
tool to punish people the administration does not like?
If the Department of Commerce really cared about improving our
commerce, they would leave our mom-and-pops alone to make a living,
creating jobs.
