LET'S GET RID OF THE WASTE IN GOVERNMENT
(Mr. DENHAM asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. DENHAM. Mr. Speaker, as chair on the Committee on Economic
Development, Emergency Management and Public Buildings, we recently
passed a bill to sell off 200 acres in Tracy at fair market value. This
is one property amongst many. Recently, the President signed that into
law. If we can do this once a day, it will take us 40 years to
liquidate the 14,000 properties that the Federal Government has already
declared surplus and excess.
It's not about Republican politics or Democrat politics. This is
about American jobs, a chance for us to come together and sell the
things that we just don't need.
Let's get rid of the waste in government. This is one small step. We
have 14,000 more steps to go.
