OFFICIAL RECOGNITION OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS, AS THE BIRTHPLACE OF THE
NATIONAL GUARD OF THE UNITED STATES
The SPEAKER pro tempore. The unfinished business is the vote on the
motion to suspend the rules and pass the bill (H.R. 1339) to amend
title 32, United States Code, the body of laws of the United States
dealing with the National Guard, to recognize the City of Salem,
Massachusetts, as the Birthplace of the National Guard of the United
States, as amended, on which the yeas and nays were ordered.
The Clerk read the title of the bill.
The SPEAKER pro tempore. The question is on the motion offered by the
gentleman from Pennsylvania (Mr. Platts) that the House suspend the
rules and pass the bill, as amended.

The title was amended so as to read: ``A bill to designate the City
of Salem, Massachusetts, as the Birthplace of the National Guard of the
United States.''
A motion to reconsider was laid on the table.

Mr. FILNER. Mr. Speaker, on rollcall 141, I was away from the Capitol
due to prior commitments to my constituents. Had I been present, I
would have voted ``yea.''
