MEMORIAL DAY
(Ms. JACKSON LEE of Texas asked and was given permission to address
the House for 1 minute.)
Ms. JACKSON LEE of Texas. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to remind
Americans that on Monday we will commemorate those men and women that
have fallen in battle. This morning we are laying a wreath in the
Arlington Cemetery in reflection and remembrance of women who have
fallen on behalf of their country.
We want to say to all those families, those mothers, fathers, and
extended family members, we offer our deepest gratitude and sympathy,
and as well to the Blue Star and Gold Star mothers who remain active in
serving this country.
As a member of the Military Families Caucus, I'm delighted to be able
to say that we will stand for our families. And our promise is to those
who still live and still fight that we will fight for more resources
for you, and we will fight for more opportunities that you will have
when you return home: a good paying job, educational opportunities, and
the ability to heal and mend and to provide for your families.
We mourn those who have been lost. We pay tribute to them. But we say
that the Nation will never stop being grateful for those who have
fallen in battle and who, in fact, have sacrificed their life for us
for freedom, democracy, and justice. We pay tribute on this Memorial
Day.
