HONORING WEST MESA HIGH SCHOOL IN ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO
(Mr. HEINRICH asked and was given permission to address the House for
1 minute.)
Mr. HEINRICH. Madam Speaker, I rise today in honor of West Mesa High
School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which was recently selected as one
of America's best high schools by Newsweek magazine.
Since 1966, West Mesa High School has been the heart of Albuquerque's
west side. Recently the school was a great partner when they hosted one
of my job fairs, as well as my service academy nomination information
night.
Last year the school had an outstanding 75 percent of its students
enrolled in at least one advanced placement course, the kind of
rigorous classes that push students to achieve their potential and lead
our Nation in the 21st century.
The late educator, Jaime Escalante, associated with the film ``Stand
and Deliver,'' told his students, You do not enter the future; you
create the future.

I want to thank the West Mesa Mustangs for pushing themselves and for
creating a bright future for themselves and for our community. Again,
congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.
