                     AMERICANS WANT SECURE BORDERS

(Mr. SMITH of Texas asked and was given permission to address the
House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. SMITH of Texas. Mr. Speaker, Arizona's immigration enforcement
law mirrors what is already in Federal law. So why are some special
interest groups in an uproar? It shouldn't be surprising. The very same
people who want to throw out Arizona's new immigration law also want
Congress to throw out America's immigration laws. Open borders
advocates want amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, so they find
fault with any law that tries to reduce illegal immigration.
Arizona has every right to protect its residents and secure the
border. The message from Arizona is not to pass an amnesty bill in
Washington, but to enforce immigration laws and strengthen border
security.
