HEALTH CARE TAKEOVER
(Mrs. SCHMIDT asked and was given permission to address the House for
1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.)
Mrs. SCHMIDT. Mr. Speaker, on March 20, the majority in this body
passed a bill that the American public knew was going to cost too much
and not really effectively address the problems with health care; but
despite claims made to the contrary, this body did pass the bill.
Just recently, the President's own administration said that the
massive government takeover of our health care system will actually
increase health care costs, not decrease them. And yet while costs
increase, this administration admits that the health care takeover will
still leave 23 million people, Americans, without insurance.
The best way to increase the number of insured Americans is to
decrease health care costs, something this bill did not do. The
President's own administration says the Democratic health care takeover
does just the opposite, increases costs and doesn't cover every
American. This is not what the people want.
