               FIRST APOSTOLIC VISIT OF POPE BENEDICT XVI

  (Mr. DONNELLY asked and was given permission to address the House for 
1 minute.)
  Mr. DONNELLY. Mr. Speaker, on behalf of our county and my 
congressional district, which includes the University of Notre Dame, we 
want to welcome Pope Benedict XVI on his first apostolic visit to the 
United States.
  He is a highly regarded theologian and scholar, having written over

books. Reconciliation and peace have been the major themes of his 
papacy. He has focused on the dignity of the human person, standing 
behind refugees, exiles and others.
  We welcome Pope Benedict XVI to our beloved country. He has been a 
leader for peace, and we look forward to his visit.
