PROTECTING EMBRYOS RIGHT THING TO DO
(Ms. FOXX asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute.)
Ms. FOXX. Mr. Speaker, constituents throughout my district have been
contacting my office in opposition to using embryonic stem cells for
research purposes. They join me today in applauding the President's
veto of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act.
As stewards of hardworking Americans' tax dollars, we cannot ask our
constituents to fund the killing of human embryos. It is imperative
that we do all we can to protect the most vulnerable members of our
society, the unborn.
Embyronic stem cells have been available for research for nearly 5
years, and during that time research on those stem cells has produced
nothing and cured no one. In the meantime, ethical biomedical treatment
not derived from embryos, like that at the Wake Forest Institute for
Regenerative Medicine in my district, has helped cure over 70 diseases.
In this time of incredible medical advances, unethical research is
unnecessary and desecrates the sanctity of human life.
