CONGRATULATING BARBARA BYRD BENNETT, CEO OF CLEVELAND SCHOOLS

(Mrs. JONES of Ohio asked and was given permission to address the
House for 1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.)
Mrs. JONES of Ohio. Mr. Speaker, I stand this morning to congratulate
the CEO of the Cleveland municipal school district. Her name is Barbara
Byrd Bennett. Why am I up here? Because they attempted to take her away
from the city of Cleveland after all the good work she has done over
the past few years. I am proud to stand here on the floor of the House
to celebrate the work that she has done, to look at the improved
schools that we have, to know that as a result of her work we have got
a new issue 14 that was passed, we will be building some 48 new schools
in the city of Cleveland and renovating about 50.
We have not built a new school in Cleveland in 20 years. Our school
system is doing better. Our students are doing better. I salute Barbara
Byrd Bennett, our CEO, and thank her for staying in Cleveland and
pledge my support as well.
