   RAISING AWARENESS FOR THE ERADICATION OF HIV/AIDS AND TUBERCULOSIS

  (Ms. ROS-LEHTINEN asked and was given permission to address the House 
for 1 minute and to revise and extend her remarks.)
  Ms. ROS-LEHTINEN. Mr. Speaker, one-third of the world, including 15 
million Americans, are infected with tuberculosis. My State of Florida 
ranks among the top four in tuberculosis cases every year. Tuberculosis 
is the leading killer among people infected with HIV/AIDS, and both 
remain public health concerns that we must continue to address.
  This year, in conjunction with the Miami-Dade County Health 
Department, the Florida Department of Health, the South Florida 
American Lung Association, and the Global Health Council and many other 
public health organizations, I am promoting a forum entitled ``When HIV 
and TB Collide: A World TB Day Event.'' This conference will explore 
how unique partnerships between government, faith-based groups, and 
community-based organizations can together help combat the deadly 
combination between HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis that threatens the health 
and well-being of our communities. I urge my colleagues to help raise 
awareness on these diseases both globally and locally, and to continue 
working until they are eradicated from our world.
