AMERICANS WAITING FOR ECONOMIC STIMULUS AND ENERGY BILLS
(Mr. BARTLETT of Maryland asked and was given permission to address
the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. BARTLETT of Maryland. Americans are waiting for desperately
needed economic stimulus and energy bills.
Mr. Speaker, the other body has put Americans on hold; on hold for a
comprehensive energy bill, on hold for an economic stimulus bill. Both
are long past due as evidenced by our growing energy dependence and our
deepening recession. The President wisely asked Congress to pass both
months ago.
The House passed a comprehensive energy bill in August. The House
passed a tax relief bill to spur the economy more than 6 weeks ago.
Meanwhile, America is still waiting for the other body to act on both
of these high priorities.
How much longer will the other body leadership keep Americans on
hold, Mr. Speaker?
