                           EXECUTIVE SESSION

  Mr. HAGEL. Mr. President, in executive session I ask unanimous 
consent the Foreign Relations Committee be discharged from further 
consideration of the nomination of Richard N. Gardner, the Senate 
immediately proceed to his consideration, the nomination be confirmed, 
the motion to reconsider be laid upon the table, the President be 
immediately notified of the Senate's action, and the Senate then return 
to legislative session.
  The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered.
  The nomination considered and confirmed is as follows:

       Richard N. Gardner, of New York, to be an Alternate 
     Representative of the United States of America to the Fifty-
     fifth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
