            <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="V">TITLE V—</num><heading style="-uslm-dtd:header">HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH PROJECT </heading>
            <section style="-uslm-dtd:section" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s501" styleType="traditional">
                <heading style="-uslm-dtd:header">center for excellence in education authorized </heading>
                <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="501">Sec. 501. </num><subsection style="-uslm-dtd:subsection" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s501/a" styleType="OLC" class="inline"><num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="a">(a) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">The Secretary of Education (hereinafter in this section referred to as the “<quotedText style="-uslm-dtd:quote">Secretary</quotedText>”) is authorized in accordance with the provisions of this title, to provide financial assistance to Indiana University located in Bloomington, Indiana, to pay the Federal share of the cost of the construction, and related costs, including renovation costs, for the Center for Excellence in Education facility at Indiana University, to be used as a national research and training resource for individuals who intend to become exemplary elementary and secondary school teachers and administrators.</content></subsection>
                <subsection style="-uslm-dtd:subsection" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s501/b" styleType="OLC">
                    <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="b">(b)</num><paragraph style="-uslm-dtd:paragraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s501/b/1" styleType="OLC" class="inline"><num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="1">(1) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">No financial assistance may be made under this title unless an application is made at such time, in such manner, and containing or accompanied by such information as the Secretary may reasonably require.</content></paragraph>
                    <paragraph style="-uslm-dtd:paragraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s501/b/2" styleType="OLC" class="leftIndentDecrease1">
                        <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="2">(2) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">For the purpose of this section, the Federal share of the cost of the Center for Excellence in Education facility at the Indiana University should not exceed 50 percent.</content>
                    </paragraph>
                </subsection>
                <subsection style="-uslm-dtd:subsection" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s501/c" styleType="OLC">
                    <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="c">(c) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">There are authorized to be appropriated such sums, not to exceed $6,000,000, as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this section. Funds appropriated pursuant to this title shall remain available until September 30, 1987.</content>
                </subsection>
            </section>
            <section style="-uslm-dtd:section" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502" styleType="traditional">
                <heading style="-uslm-dtd:header">research centers </heading>
                <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="502">Sec. 502. </num><subsection style="-uslm-dtd:subsection" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/a" styleType="OLC" class="inline"><num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="a">(a)</num><paragraph style="-uslm-dtd:paragraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/a/1" styleType="OLC" class="inline"><num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="1">(1) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">The Secretary of Health and Human Services (hereinafter in this section referred to as the “<quotedText style="-uslm-dtd:quote">Secretary</quotedText>”) is authorized, in accordance with the provisions of this section, to provide financial assistance to the University of Utah located in Salt Lake City, Utah, to pay the Federal share of the cost of the establishment and operation (including construction, and related costs, including renovation costs) of a center for research on the health effects of nuclear energy and other new energy technologies.</content></paragraph>
                <paragraph style="-uslm-dtd:paragraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/a/2" styleType="OLC" class="leftIndentDecrease1">
                    <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="2">(2)</num><subparagraph style="-uslm-dtd:subparagraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/a/2/A" styleType="OLC" class="inline"><num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="A">(A) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">No financial assistance may be made under this subsection unless an application is made at such time, in such manner, and containing or accompanied by such information as the Secretary may reasonably require.</content></subparagraph>
                    <subparagraph style="-uslm-dtd:subparagraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/a/2/B" styleType="OLC" class="leftIndentDecrease2">
                        <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="B">(B) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">For the purpose of this subsection, the Federal share of the cost of the center shall not exceed 50 percent.</content>
                    </subparagraph>
                </paragraph>
                <paragraph style="-uslm-dtd:paragraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/a/3" styleType="OLC" class="leftIndentDecrease1">
                    <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="3">(3) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">There are authorized to be appropriated such sums, not to exceed $4,000,000, as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this subsection. Funds appropriated pursuant to this subsection shall remain available until September 30, 1987.</content>
                </paragraph></subsection>
                <subsection style="-uslm-dtd:subsection" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/b" styleType="OLC">
                    <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="b">(b)</num><paragraph style="-uslm-dtd:paragraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/b/1" styleType="OLC" class="inline"><num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="1">(1) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">The Secretary shall, through the National Cancer Institute, establish or support at least one clinic or health facility for cancer screening and research in St. George, Utah. Such clinic shall be affiliated with a health science center capable of providing clinical, research, and interdisciplinary technical assistance to such clinic or facility, and shall make its services accessible to the preponderance of the residents of the areas that have received the greatest fallout from the Nevada nuclear tests.</content></paragraph>
                    <paragraph style="-uslm-dtd:paragraph" identifier="/us/sComp/98/558/tV/s502/b/2" styleType="OLC" class="leftIndentDecrease1">
                        <num style="-uslm-dtd:enum" value="2">(2) </num><content style="-uslm-dtd:text">There are authorized to be appropriated such sums, not to exceed $6,000,000, as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this subsection. Funds appropriated pursuant to this subsection shall remain available until September 30, 1987.</content>
