    TINA SMITH, Democrat, of Minneapolis, MN; born March 4, 1958; 
education: B.A., Stanford University, Stanford, CA, 1980; M.B.A., Tuck 
School of Business at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, 1984; 
professional: began working at Minnesota-based General Mills in 1984; 
later opened her own small business; went on to serve as vice president 
for external affairs at Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, 
South Dakota (PPMNS); served as chief of staff to both Minneapolis Mayor 
R.T. Rybak and Governor Mark Dayton; in 2014, Tina was elected to serve 
as Minnesota's 48th Lieutenant Governor; married: Archie Smith, for more 
than 30 years; two sons and two daughters-in-law; committees: 
Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; Banking, Housing, and Urban 
Affairs; Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; Indian Affairs; 
appointed to the U.S. Senate on December 13, 2017, to fill the vacancy 
caused by the resignation of Senator Al Franken; took the oath of office 
on January 3, 2018; subsequently elected to the U.S. Senate in a special 
election on November 6, 2018, for the remainder of the term ending 
January 3, 2021.
