a B.A. in history, Yale University, New Haven, CT, 2001; J.D., Harvard 
Law School, Cambridge University, MA, 2005; sworn into the Judge 
Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Navy, while still a student at the 
Harvard Law School; completed U.S. Naval Justice School in 2005; 
professional: served in the Trial Service Office Command South East at 
the Naval Station Mayport, FL, as a military prosecutor; promoted to 
Lieutenant (O-3) and worked for the Joint Task Force-Guantanamo 
Commander (JTF-GTMO), at the Guantanamo Bay Joint Detention Facility, 
2006; assigned to SEAL Team One and deployed to Iraq with the troop 
surge as the Legal Advisor to the SEAL Commander, Special Operations 
Task Force-West in Fallujah, 2007; earned an appointment with the U.S. 
Department of Justice to serve as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. 
Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Florida, 2008; concurrently 
accepted a Reserve commission as a Lieutenant, Judge Advocate General 
Corps, in the U.S. Navy Reserve; currently a Lieutenant Commander; 
awards: Bronze Star Medal and Iraq Campaign Medal Award; authored a book 
titled Dreams From Our Founding Fathers: First Principles in the Age of 
Obama, which was published in 2011; religion: Roman Catholic; married: 
Casey Black DeSantis; children: daughter, Madison; committees: Foreign

113th Congress on November 6, 2012; reelected to each succeeding
