Montana National Guard 1979-2012; commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, 
1987; led over 700 soldiers into combat in Iraq, the largest deployment 
of Montana soldiers and airmen since WWII, in 2004 and 2005; Adjutant 
General of the Montana National Guard, 2008-12; 30th Lieutenant Governor 
of Montana, 2013-14; awards: recipient of the Bronze Star, Legion of 
Merit Award; Combat Infantry Badge; married: wife, Janet who has been in 
the Montana public schools system for 17 years; children: Michael and 
Taylor; daughter-in-law, April, and a granddaughter, Kennedy; 
committees: Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; Commerce, Science, and 
Transportation; Rules and Administration; Special Committee on Aging; 
appointed to the U.S. Senate on February 9, 2014, to fill the vacancy 
caused by the resignation of Max Baucus, and took the oath of office on 
February 11, 2014.
