68; attorney general, State of Vermont, 1969-73; committees: chairman, 
Environment and Public Works; Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; 
Finance; Veterans' Affairs; Special Committee on Aging; cochairman: 
Northeast-Midwest Coalition; married to Elizabeth Daley; two children: 
Leonard and Laura; elected to the 94th Congress, November 5, 1974; 
reelected to each succeeding Congress; elected to the U.S. Senate on 
November 8, 1988 for the six-year term beginning January 3, 1989; 
reelected to each succeeding Senate term.
