Council, 1986; and Warwick, RI, Mayor, 1992; in 1998 he was elected by 
his peers as President of the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns; 
married to the former Stephanie Danforth; three children: Louisa, Caleb, 
and Thea; appointed to the U.S. Senate on November 2, 1999; elected to 
the U.S. Senate on November 7, 2000.
