<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 5101</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20260723">July 23, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S330">Mr. Bennet</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S408">Mr. Hickenlooper</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit the Secretary of the Interior from taking any action to expand the Mid-Continent Limestone Quarry located near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. </official-title></form><legis-body><section id="idc7d7ed666fcd4ebba613182243cd02ff" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Glenwood Hot Springs Protection Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id2c91bf92c07a4fa7bb413d6d1a69fd67"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on Expansion of the Mid-Continent Limestone Quarry</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id8273062dc3cc4b2bbc7233a12672bd2b"> <enum>(a)</enum> <header>Prohibition</header> <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of the Interior shall not process or approve any application for the expansion of existing mineral operations located on any mining or mill site claim located under the general mining laws, or for any mineral material sales contract or application under the Act of July 31, 1947 (commonly known as the <quote>Materials Act of 1947</quote>) (61 Stat. 681, chapter 406; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/30/601">30 U.S.C. 601 et seq.</external-xref>), or the Act of July 23, 1955 (commonly known as the <quote>Surface Resources Act of 1955</quote>) (69 Stat. 367, chapter 375; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/30/611">30 U.S.C. 611 et seq.</external-xref>), for limestone on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management that is located in whole or in part within the land described in subsection (b).</text>
 </subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id50bd9b13f643482f9d1acfe8702acc41"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Land described</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The land referred to in subsection (a) includes the following land located in Garfield County, Colorado:</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide02b40ffaaf04a759ff3f21fac7c3685"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Sec. 4, T. 6 S., R. 89 W., sixth principal meridian.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6f81dd962b114d2bb481aedc674dbf29"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Secs. 25 and 36, T. 5 S., R. 89 W., sixth principal meridian.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3444be3a0be0441e856fdf26ec3a553e"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Secs. 30 and 31, T. 5 S., R. 88 W., sixth principal meridian.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
