<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4856</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20260623">June 23, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S383">Mr. Sullivan</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S288">Ms. Murkowski</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEV00">Committee on Environment and Public Works</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Solid Waste Disposal Act to provide for onsite storage in certain remote areas.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Remote Waste Storage Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id50f713b278c14b979010ab58affa4efa"><enum>2.</enum><header>Onsite storage in remote areas</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3001(d)(6) of the Solid Waste Disposal Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/6921">42 U.S.C. 6921(d)(6)</external-xref>) is amended, in the second sentence, by inserting <quote>, or for not more than 2 years if such generator lacks year-round surface transportation access to a treatment, storage, or disposal facility and the accumulation of the hazardous waste is conducted in compliance with all applicable laws (including regulations)</quote> before the period at the end.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
