<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4841</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20260618">June 18, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S427">Mr. Schiff</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S395">Mrs. Hyde-Smith</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAF00">Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Emergency Food Assistance Act of 1983 to allow for commodities under the emergency food assistance program to be ordered through the Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id428d6ddcf3414d3887d3c5d6fdf38161" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Fresh Produce for Families Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3a86060e8b6a49819e178815a7a8ed5e" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Option for purchasing TEFAP through DoD Fresh</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 214(c) of the Emergency Food Assistance Act of 1983 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/7515">7 U.S.C. 7515(c)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3e2d49f3d02b43e480c66dfbdd05c5ca"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id24535b67e07248ef9f9dd8ec86991472"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Option for purchasing through DoD Fresh</header><text>At the request of a State agency, the Secretary may allow the State agency to use not more than 20 percent of the cost of the commodities allocated to that State agency under this section to order commodities through the Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
