<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4538</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20260514">May 14, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S418">Mr. Fetterman</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S433">Mr. McCormick</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S362">Mr. Kaine</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S327">Mr. Warner</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S437">Mr. Justice</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S372">Mrs. Capito</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the National Trails System Act to direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study on the feasibility of designating Washington’s Trail—1753 as a national historic trail, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="HBD2EF649311C409DB570085842555E43"><section section-type="section-one" id="H12053CE41D704938B9E2EE8EEFF5A16E"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Washington’s Trail—1753 National Historic Trail Feasibility Study Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H4EC998F6CA8D4B838FDEA67FD2291B07"><enum>2.</enum><header>Washington’s Trail—1753 National Historic Trail Feasibility Study</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 5(c) of the National Trails System Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1244">16 U.S.C. 1244(c)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HB7B468B0F2F947D799E6DB39B6B9D32E"><paragraph id="HC36E65B26A6C4FF2B43911C0ECEB65B9"><enum>(50)</enum><header>Washington’s Trail—1753</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Washington’s Trail—1753, extending approximately 500 miles from Williamsburg, Virginia, to Fort LeBoeuf (now Waterford), Pennsylvania, following the route taken by George Washington and his party on his diplomatic mission to the French on behalf of Virginia Governor Robert Dinwiddie from October 31, 1753, to January 16, 1754, just prior to the start of the French and Indian War (1754–1763).</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
