<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4536</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20260514">May 14, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S402">Ms. Rosen</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S431">Mr. Curtis</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S430">Ms. Blunt Rochester</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEV00">Committee on Environment and Public Works</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Safe Drinking Water Act to authorize grant funds under the Midsize and Large Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability Program to be used to increase resilience to extreme temperatures, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting America's Drinking Water from Extreme Temperatures Act of 2026</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc8038ac1abe94f6fbfa2924ff21e3bc9"><enum>2.</enum><header>Midsize and Large Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability Program</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1459F of the Safe Drinking Water Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/300j-19g">42 U.S.C. 300j–19g</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3df4e06003994405935cec553c4d6780"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in each of subsections (b) and (c), by striking <quote>natural hazards and extreme weather events</quote> each place it appears and inserting <quote>natural hazards, extreme weather events, and extreme temperatures</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idbe8a9bae27754b0583796402fd6510e8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (c)(2), by striking <quote>natural hazards or extreme weather events, including risks to drinking water from flooding</quote> and inserting <quote>natural hazards, extreme weather events (including risks to drinking water from flooding), or extreme temperatures</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id8da3add6e183488f8377f804f6a0890a"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subsection (d)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3917c3171f7b486696f53ae6ae5e34bd"> <enum>(A)</enum> <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (2), by inserting <quote>extreme temperatures,</quote> after <quote>weather events,</quote>;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida7c23fc898624072913f8e7dbf246825"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (3), by inserting <quote>or extreme temperatures</quote> after <quote>weather events</quote>;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id6d913fe0cb1d4a29a673a4b45790ac50"><enum>(C)</enum><text>in each of paragraphs (4) and (5), by striking <quote>or extreme weather events</quote> each place it appears and inserting <quote>extreme weather events, or extreme temperatures</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idf17c7cfef3c643d89d12646ee78006b3"><enum>(D)</enum><text>in paragraph (6)(A), by striking <quote>hazards or extreme weather events</quote> and inserting <quote>hazards, extreme weather events, or extreme temperatures</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide398bdade6fb469689c6b23c0d89c3a0"><enum>(4)</enum><text>in subsection (f)(1), by striking <quote>2022 through 2026</quote> and inserting <quote>2027 through 2032</quote>.</text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
