<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4191</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20260325">March 25, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S428">Ms. Alsobrooks</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S341">Mr. Blumenthal</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S370">Mr. Booker</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S386">Ms. Duckworth</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S253">Mr. Durbin</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAF00">Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 to extend eligibility of new moms for the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Extending WIC for New Moms Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="H868FE69A3F364DBFB0311FCC4EE62497"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extending WIC eligibility for new moms</header><subsection id="H6B69B735248E43B48CAFB68BF6BF7FD0"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Extension of postpartum period</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 17(b)(10) of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1786">42 U.S.C. 1786(b)(10)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>six months</quote> and inserting <quote>24 months</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H65FFBE4413E1411F97B248A96B292CB2"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Extension of breastfeeding period</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 17(d)(3)(A)(ii) of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1786">42 U.S.C. 1786(d)(3)(A)(ii)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>1 year</quote> and inserting <quote>24 months</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="HAF14BA595D1D490D933FC1AD553BA6A6"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Agriculture shall submit to Congress a report that includes an evaluation of the effect of each of the amendments made by this section on—</text><paragraph id="H7E035F3147CC47A98CA364740BA511F1"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">maternal and infant health outcomes, including racial and ethnic disparities with respect to such outcomes;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE1FE5BBE69534EDDB6719483A2FC49A4"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">breastfeeding rates among postpartum individuals;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HB972F2F7BD6A4648AAF96EF860680366"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">qualitative evaluations of family experiences under the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children established by section 17 of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1786">42 U.S.C. 1786</external-xref>); and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H5C47D33F47A4482FAD729623A8EE1783"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">other relevant information, as determined by the Secretary.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
