<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4058</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20260311">March 11, 2026</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S426">Mr. Kim</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To authorize the National Foundation for the Arts and the National Foundation for the Humanities to support activities for the purpose of broadening public understanding of civics and the United States Constitution.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>American Stories Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc38c5e8589d64ce6ae031b73fe1c5474"><enum>2.</enum><header>Amendments to the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act of 1965</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id7c428350a16c4c1f941ec34632c15d2b"><enum>(a)</enum><header>National Endowment for the Arts</header><text>Section 5(c) of the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/954">20 U.S.C. 954(c)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida6bebf7e31d2480598a9f3f1955f1ecf"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (9), by striking <quote>and</quote> after the semicolon;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1ab5c0d2e7c34a10bf65c3dc60811618"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraph (10) as paragraph (11); and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide71ae9795e264c4e9b49fc04516f92d3"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after paragraph (9) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id25a2a18e6606441c940f87fa13e1aa5d"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide689493a925e4863a340f1ed4aee41db"><enum>(10)</enum><text>projects, productions, and workshops through film, radio, video, and similar media, for the purpose of broadening public understanding of civics and the United States Constitution; and</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id49c5d2907470433093fa43cdcedbed18"><enum>(b)</enum><header>National Endowment for the Humanities</header><text>Section 7(c) of the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/956">20 U.S.C. 956(c)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="iddc991d91148f47348971f88d49727a95"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (9), by striking <quote>and</quote> after the semicolon;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id2f841424594447fd8792c9f8eb3668f1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraph (10) as paragraph (11); and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idf98ef916a1dd46ba8e8b4a0163636500"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after paragraph (9) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3bcefd15fc0a4575bed17402f00b9e4b"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1a59083114f94ebe9148d4e966d21c83"><enum>(10)</enum><text>foster projects, productions, and workshops through film, radio, video, and similar media, for the purpose of broadening public understanding of civics and the United States Constitution; and</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
