To reauthorize the Young Fishermen's Development Act, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
This Act may be cited as the “Young Fishermen’s Development Extension Act ”.
SEC. 2. Reauthorization of the Young Fishermen's Development Act.
Section 5(a) of the Young Fishermen's Development Act (33 U.S.C. 1144(a)) is amended by striking “2026” and inserting “2031”.
This Act may be cited as the “Young Fishermen’s Development Program Reauthorization Act”.
SEC. 2. Reauthorization of the Young Fishermen's Development Act.
The Young Fishermen's Development Act (33 U.S.C. 1141 et seq.) is amended—
(1) in section 4—
(A) in subsection (a)—
(i) in paragraph (5), by inserting “, including crew management and disaster preparedness” before the semicolon;
(C) in subsection (f)—
(i) by redesignating paragraphs (1) through (5) as subparagraphs (A) through (E), respectively, and moving the margins of such subparagraphs 2 ems to the right;
(iii) by adding at the end the following:
“(2) TRACKING, IDENTIFYING, AND EVALUATING PROGRESS.—The Secretary of Commerce, acting through the National Sea Grant Office, shall, to the extent practicable, track the career progression of participants in the Program, identify those who subsequently enter or remain in commercial fisheries of the United States and the Great Lakes or related industries, and use these outcomes as a key factor in evaluating the effectiveness of, and future eligibility for, grant applications.”; and
