Whereas first responders from New Jersey, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians, rushed toward the September 11, 2001, attacks at the World Trade Center while others fled to safety; Whereas New Jersey’s waterfront received the largest waterborne evacuation in history, as ferries, tugboats, and rescue vessels carried an estimated 500,000 people across the Hudson River to safety, and New Jersey first responders established triage centers along the waterfront to treat the wounded; Whereas New Jersey Task Force 1, the State’s urban search and rescue team managed by the New Jersey State Police and drawn from all 21 counties, deployed to Ground Zero and searched the rubble around the clock for survivors and the fallen, while New Jersey law enforcement officers helped secure the tunnels, bridges, and rail crossings linking New Jersey to New York; Whereas New Jersey lost more residents on September 11, 2001, than any State other than New York; and Whereas the first responders have carried the toll forward, with many suffering and dying from 9/11-related illnesses in the years since: Now, therefore, be it

That the House of Representatives— (1)recognizes the law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel of New Jersey who responded to the September 11, 2001, attacks at the World Trade Center and who carried out the rescue, recovery, and medical relief efforts in the days and months that followed; (2)honors their service and sacrifice; (3)remembers those who have died, including from 9/11-related illnesses since; and (4)reaffirms the Federal commitment to the World Trade Center Health Program and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.
