<section id="HC3FCCDAD74074AE494E094442AF3A56B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This resolution may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Original Resolution Condemning the Hateful and Islamophobic Comments of Representative Andy Ogles</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HFA94591D0DFB4237BEEFDEA786FA374F"><enum>2.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The House of Representatives finds the following:</text>
<paragraph id="H6211E08128304CD585C0641B7264B984"><enum>(1)</enum><text>At 9:40 A.M. on March 9, 2026, Representative Andy Ogles posted <quote>Muslims don’t belong in American society. Pluralism is a lie.</quote>.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H105EDEC4A4F343919B129F135CE0A272"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The word <quote>Islam</quote> means <quote>submission to the will of God</quote> and <quote>peace</quote>.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H0E152D0CFA9A4B6D99B732B176E0B911"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Islam is a complete system of strong moral convictions that promotes peace, equality, and social justice.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HE9FD168D22F74DA590DDA43D84F9534D"><enum>(4)</enum><text>Islam charges that governments should always be focused on equity, justice, and compassion.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HCBBBFC2C96744AD9848D61BE4FADB76F"><enum>(5)</enum><text>Islam teaches and upholds the equality of all people, regardless of race or social status, abolishing systems that are against it, including the caste system.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HFB8A5CF9E0784232A6580F62117F5CD7"><enum>(6)</enum><text>The Quran speaks about tolerance between Muslims and non-Muslims.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H2002245D3A32430FB6D1CC6913EDBF34"><enum>(7)</enum><text>The United States has been built from its foundation as a pluralist nation, composing itself from people of all walks of life.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HB11A6641048044878D6948563C25B4B6"><enum>(8)</enum><text>Opposing this pluralist philosophy in response to the racial makeup of the nation changing is hateful.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H1A15E67223844491832B4FD7A937E7EA"><enum>(9)</enum><text>The First Amendment in the Bill of Rights states that <quote>Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof</quote>.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HFE1412380A074FD295558102E14A9E90"><enum>(10)</enum><text>Claiming that followers of Islam are incompatible with a pluralist nation with the above provision in its Constitution is Islamophobic.</text></paragraph></section>
